Victorian Box Sash Windows
This was in Battersea South West London SW11 area.
This was a Victorian building that was converted for office use with showroom facilities.

The concrete cills & stonework that spanned across the front of the building were in a deteriorated state, they had to be restored & parts of them re-built & re-set in new concrete. This was done gradually in stages.

The condition of the windows was quite poor, as the cills & boxes were rotten. Some of the pulleys were missing & the sash cords had snapped & some of the lead weights were damaged & others were missing. The windows were overhauled & refurbished. They were constructed from European Oak & painted using a micro-porous paint, such as Dulux Aqua Tec Weathershield Paint System. All joinery was matched with existing joinery. Draught proof weather pile was routered into the staff & parting beads of the window. It was also requested that the windows were made more sound proof, for this reason 4mm low emissivity 'E' glass was used with a soft coat & a 16mm warm edge spacer bar & 4mm acoustic glass. In total this was a 24mm double glazed sealed unit. All units in the ground floor windows were toughened units. All these units were Argon filled in conjunction with the energy saving glass & spacer bar, this resulted in a low overall 'U' value. The space between the box & the brick work was insulated with all of the, surround being re-pointed with sand & cement.

Masonry Weathershield base was used for all external masonry, finished with a masonry weathershield paint system. The original character of the building was maintained, whilst utilising & fusing modern technology to enhance its environmental integrity.
