Laying bricks for the window opening
This job was in the South Woodford E18 area.
The opening for the new Box Sash window was cut wider than the box itself to allow for it to be fitted with the least disruption to the client. Then our master bricklayer built brick piers upon each side gradually, resulting in the space for the box sash. A string line was run between the two piers so that each row of bricks was laid level. The bricks were matched as close as possible to the original bricks, London stocks were used from a reclamation yard.

A former was built by the carpenter out of ply for a brick arch to be constructed around the arch by the bricklayer. This was then left to set and was pointed a day later. After three more days the wooden former was removed resulting in a brick arch above the Box sash window to maintain the character and period of the property.
